WHO ARE THE ÒRÌṢÀ?

The orisa are the powerful spiritual entities identified in the Yoruba civilization with certain forces of nature and elements who have been invested control over certain aspects of our know reality.  There are two catergories of orisa: Irunmole orisa, and deified hero orisa.  Irunmole are the orisa who were not born on earth, but came here from the spiritual dimension known as Ikole Orun, what we consider space in modern times but called heaven in primordial times to stabilize the volatile energetic state of early earth to make it more habitable for human beings.  This class of orisa include Ifa, Obatala, Sango, Ogun, Oshun, and others.

The diefied hero orisa were born human beings but through amazing feats and acts of nature were diefied after their death.  In actuality most of them did not die a physical death by went into the earth or sea or somewhere in nature where they dissappeared only to be seen again in the spiritual form.
